Furness Education Trust is a multi-academy trust based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria, serving the Furness community and comprises four academies: one secondary and three primary schools. The secondary school, Furness Academy School, was keen to use edtech, but wanted to ensure the finite investment delivered the maximum benefit.

As a school based in an area of social deprivation, they sought to investigate how they could leverage edtech to support their learners. The Trust had begun to prove how edtech could have a positive impact in learning at one of three primary schools but wanted support to scale this up to a whole trust digital strategy.

Furness Education Trust have used the EdTech Demonstrator Programme to support the development of their Digital Strategy and help facilitate a rapid introduction of a pupil one-to-one device programme. It has also allowed them to identify opportunities and implement edtech to reduce teacher workload. The offer is bespoke to the supported school, ranging from aspects such as infrastructure readiness through to whole school CPD.

The big benefit of using the EdTech Demonstrator Programme is that it is free and tailored to meet the needs of each school. In the long-term, engaging with and working alongside an EdTech Demonstrator School gives direct access to teachers and senior leaders who have successfully implemented technology across their own organisations. It will ensure schools are able to equip pupils with future ready digital skills, to support their learning, ultimately allowing them to succeed in their future careers.
