Hayton C of E Primary School is a thriving village school which has been an active part of the community for over 200 years. The school, which caters for children aged 3 - 11, is situated within wide open spaces with panoramic views of the North Lakes National Park. Its current intake puts it in the category of a large 'small primary'.

Starting out

We signed up to the EdTech Demonstrator Programme in June 2021 with the specific intent of accessing support to help us provide blended learning. After the kick-off meeting with Phil, our EdTech Demonstrator from Brough Community Primary School, we were able to receive bespoke help to improve our blended learning offer. Phil took into account what we had already put in place and helped us to enhance this further.

Help on hand

Phil supportively shared his understanding of computing and the Google Classroom platform. With his knowledge and expertise, we were able to provide children at our school with a robust blended learning offer during the past 12 months. The project was broken down into manageable tasks so our platform could be set up quickly and efficiently. He was always there at the end of an email or the phone to help. He kept in touch with regular checking-in emails, asking if we needed any further assistance. This was very helpful, especially during quite a stressful time during the Pandemic for all Headteachers - Phil included.

Outcomes

As a result of the help, we have been shown how to make best use of the Google Admin Panel to provide a whole school overview rather than as individual classrooms set up by teachers. We have also received advice on safeguarding & GDPR to support us.  Further training has been provided to help staff become more confident with the use of blended learning technology.  Specific support has been given to our Computing subject leader, providing comprehensive assistance across the school to support the effective use of technology in teaching and learning.
